…, now we want to be brutal

St. Margarethen, Austria

We’ve been gentle thus far; now we want to be brutal.

These words are attributed to Giacomo Puccini, who is believed to have uttered them while working on Tosca. A new Puccini wanted to present a totally unknown side of his creative powers to his audience. We executed the programme booklet for Tosca using Piedra’s existing signet design,  while drawing inspiration from the opera production in the disused quarry in St. Margarethen.

The cover shows a rendering of the projections beamed onto the wings of the giant angel created by Amra Bergman. The inside pages contain sketches of the various characters in Puccini’s masterpiece by the costume designer. They were so rich in detail and lifelike that we just had to use them.
