The Institute for Science and Technology, aka IST Austria, turned five in 2014. During this time the former Landesklinik Maria Gugging hospital has gone from strength to strength, emerging as one of the best equipped research institutes in Austria. Its international make-up is key: professors, postgrads and postdocs come from all five continents.
Alessandri Design & Brand Studio selected the Research in Progress board as its point of departure for the design, as it was the first thing that really struck us when we visited. Wherever we looked there were formulas, memos and findings on the boards throughout the institute. And young people on the move. The 2013 Annual Report was entitled Flow, also in honour of the fact that a new professorship for fluid dynamics science had just been set up.
