What’s behind the dog’s head?
Wachter Wiesler
PackagingChristoph Wachter came to Alessandri Design & Marken Manufaktur on the recommendation of Wine & Partners. The winemaker from southern Burgenland is one of Austria’s rising stars; in 2014, he was named ‘Newcomer of the Year’ by the German magazine
”Feinschmecker“. In Austria, ”A la carte“ crowned him ‘Winemaker of the Year’.
To ensure the exterior could match the fine contents, he wanted a relaunch – in other words, a redesign of his packaging.
The double surname and the coat of arms on the old label aroused suspicions of blue blood. Wrong – no one knew where the coat of arms came from, nor what it meant. So we redesigned it, with meaning. The quail and weasel represent the double surname. The dog’s head, however, stands for St Christopher, who is often depicted with a dog’s head. Any questions?
